There are a lot of music standards for each grade level
to learn each year. Many parents remember their own personal experiences of music learning from childhood. Much has changed today. Students are expected to explore music making, create movement, play a variety of instruments from classroom percussion to Orff instruments such as xylophones and glockenspiels to the recorder. Moving to a steady beat is an essential building block to learning about music's structure. Every year of elementary instruction involves beat practice in a variety of ways incorporating simple and complex rhythms over their elementary years of music instruction. Singing has been expanded to learning to sing solfege (do-re-mi) to performing complete song and verse. Much singing is a Capella to help children hear themselves as well as others around them to tune singing. Students learn the instruments of the orchestra visually and aurally (instrument sound). Beyond this music focus, students can explore music instruction online. There are many websites that children can practice instrument recognition, note naming, composer identification and much, much more. Encourage your child to explore these websites and take their music learning to the next level. Enjoy! |
